On behalf of NJ TRANSIT, Radin Consulting, Inc. (RCI) prepared a Categorical Exclusion document in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act for the Lehigh Line Third Track Enhancement Project. Potential primary, secondary, short, and long term impacts of the proposed project on environmental resources were assessed by RCI. Additionally, RCI coordinated with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, New Jersey Natural Heritage Program, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and State Historic Preservation Office for data and approvals.
The project includes the construction of 4.5 miles of a new third track between Galloping Hill Road and CP “NK” on the existing Lehigh Line in Essex and Union Counties. The construction of the third track would allow for the separation of co-mingled freight and passenger traffic while reducing congestion and delays during peak periods along the corridor.
